Building the Singapore Bloom soundscape

The starting point

We wanted the bloom to sound alive without sounding animal. Most "monster" sounds in games are mammalian, growls, roars. The Hive isn't a mammal. It's a colony.

What's in the mix

  • Field recordings of insects at 3am in Taman Negara
  • A broken industrial fan running at 60% speed
  • Contrabass scraped with a credit card
  • Pitched-down whale song (don't tell anyone)

The result

When you walk near a bloom, you hear it breathing. Slow. Wet. Indifferent.

That indifference is the scariest part.
