The World
The year is 2031. Six years ago, on March 14, 2025, an object the size of Manhattan cracked open in the upper atmosphere above the Pacific Ocean. It wasn’t a meteor, meteors don’t slow down. The fragments scattered across the Pacific Rim, North America, parts of Europe, and most of Southeast Asia.

What came out of the fragments was Spore, a violet, semi-sentient bio-mass that grows in pulsing patches, spreads slowly, and is the most energy-dense substance ever discovered. A single gram of refined Spore powers a city block for a year. It also rewrites whatever it touches. Plants grow teeth. Animals get smarter, faster, and angrier. People... change.
Within eighteen months, conventional global geopolitics collapsed. The old superpowers stopped mattering. What mattered was who controlled the Spore zones.

Now
Two factions. One Spore. Something underneath is waking up.
The People Who Matter
Two factions. Five faces. The war is being fought by people who still remember what the world was, and by people who have already forgotten on purpose.

General Marcus Vance
Commanding Officer, Pacific Theater
Fifty-four. Former USMC. Lost his daughter to Spore-mutation in Year 2. Public face of UNCC. Compelling speaker. Privately drinks too much, and sometimes orders airstrikes on his own contaminated units.

Captain Reeve Okonkwo
Field Commander, Hero Unit
Thirty-one. Nigerian-British, formerly UK Royal Marines. The only person in her unit who survived the Singapore Bloom. Carries a modified mortar she calls Promise. Trusted by her troops more than she’s comfortable with.

Dr. Elena Vasquez
Chief Scientist, Containment Division
Forty-seven, Argentine. One of the original Spore researchers, her recordings are the game’s audio logs. Increasingly believes UNCC’s ‘kill it all’ approach is wrong. Goes missing in Act 3 of the campaign.

The Choir
Hero Unit, born Akira Tanaka
A single body. Three voices. Sometimes more. A Tokyo classical violinist, exposed during the Yokohama Bloom. Can possess a single enemy unit for ten seconds. Speaks in overlapping harmonies. You will love them and find them deeply unsettling. Both reactions are correct.

Mother Halloway
Spiritual Leader of the Hive
Sixty-eight. Formerly a Methodist minister from Oregon. One of the original Children of the Open Mouth. The kindly face of the Hive. In private moments, even she admits she doesn’t fully remember who she was before.
The First Mouth
Identity unknown. Possibly multiple people. Possibly none. Speaks through whichever Hive member is closest to whoever they want to talk to. When the First Mouth speaks, everyone in earshot hears the same words, perfectly synchronized. Their goal is not conquest. Their goal is invitation. They believe they are saving humanity.
UNCC vs Hive, At A Glance
Two answers to the same question: what do you do when the planet starts talking back?
Pivotal Moments
Six years. Six fractures. Each one rewrote what humanity thought the war was going to be.

Resolution 2847
When governments realized they couldn’t contain Spore individually, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2847 in late 2026, forming the UNCC as a multi-national rapid-response force with extraordinary authority. They report to no single nation. Their charter is simple: contain, study, sterilize.

The First Communion
The Hive didn’t start as an army. It started as a cult, a fringe group in the Pacific Northwest who, in early 2026, began drinking Spore-contaminated water as a sacrament. Most died. Some didn’t. Those who didn’t began to change, and as they changed, they began to think together.
> The Choir isn’t a voice. It’s the absence of being alone. I had no idea I was lonely until I wasn’t.

The Singapore Bloom
The first major urban Spore event. 4.2 million civilians. Roughly 60,000 became Hive. The rest are unaccounted for. Captain Reeve was there.

The Reformers
A faction within UNCC believes Spore can be partnered with rather than killed. They are usually transferred to remote postings, or quietly disappeared. Nobody talks about how often.

> The lab rats exposed to Spore haven’t died. They’re solving the maze faster. Yesterday, one of them looked at the camera and waved.
UN Containment Corps
Contain. Hold. Sterilize.
UNCC absorbed the best units from a dozen militaries, US Marines, Russian Spetsnaz, Israeli Sayeret, Brazilian BOPE, Korean Special Warfare. Their doctrine is hybrid: American firepower, Russian armor, Israeli intelligence. They are the closest thing humanity has to a unified army.
They believe Spore is a disease. A planetary infection that must be quarantined and ultimately erased. Their scientists work feverishly on counter-agents, sterilization weapons, and orbital containment platforms. They have not yet given up on the world before March 14th.

> We dropped a 2,000-pound bunker buster on the bloom. The bloom got bigger. The General hasn’t slept since.
The Hive Syndicate
Be heard. Be many. Be one.
They are not zombies. They are not mindless. They are individuals, each with their own personality and memories, who happen to share a low-bandwidth psychic link with every other Spore-touched person on Earth. They call this link the Choir. The Choir doesn’t dictate, it suggests, soothes, harmonizes. Most members describe it as the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to them.
The Hive doesn’t manufacture. It grows. Buildings are tumors with purpose. Vehicles are cultivated bio-mechs. Soldiers are volunteers who walked into a Spore Womb and walked out more. They don’t see themselves as monsters. They see themselves as the next iteration.

> My son joined the Hive. I went to see him last week. He looks the same. He sounds the same. He held my hand. I don’t know what I expected.
The Spore Itself
The Spore is waking up. Both factions have noticed it independently. UNCC’s deep-tissue analysis shows neural complexity increasing year over year. The Hive’s Choir reports a deeper voice underneath the harmony, older, slower, vast.
The Spore is not native to Earth. The thing that fell on March 14th was not a meteor. It was a seed. And the seed is starting to grow into something.

Spore-Touched Wildlife
Neutral on the map until you cross their patch. Late-game, the Spore starts spawning them in greater numbers, and they don’t care which faction you’re wearing.
Mawhound
Mutated wolf-thing. Four legs, no eyes, all teeth. Hunts in packs at dusk.
Tendril
Plant-thing that grabs passing units. Provides cover. Hostile to everyone.
Bloomspawn
Cheap. Weak. Terrifying in numbers. Spawn from any Spore patch left alone too long.
The Witness
Looks like a person made of Spore. Stares. Then attacks. Counts as an omen.
> There is something under the Pacific that sings in a key we don’t have names for.
