Frequently Asked Questions

Everything operators, press, and curious civilians keep asking about Bio-Op. If something is missing, ask us directly.

What is Bio-Op?

Bio-Op is a real-time strategy game set six years after a meteor seeded the planet with Spore, the most energy-dense and most volatile substance ever discovered. You command either the UN Containment Corps, a conventional military force trying to sterilise the infection, or the Hive Syndicate, a psychic-linked cult that has chosen to merge with it. Both factions play completely differently.

When can I play Bio-Op?

Closed Alpha is running now with invited testers. Closed Beta is scheduled for summer 2026, with sign-ups going out in waves. Open Beta is targeted for late 2026 and will be playable in any modern browser with no install. Full launch is planned for 2027.

How do I join the beta?

Sign up at bio-op.com/beta with your email, faction preference, and RTS experience. The first wave of Closed Beta invites goes to operators who enlisted earliest, with priority for testers who completed a faction allegiance dossier. There is no payment to join.

Is Bio-Op free to play?

The Closed and Open Betas are free for everyone with an invite or a public access window. Pricing for the full 2027 launch has not been announced. The browser version will always have a free entry point so anyone can try a match.

What platforms will Bio-Op be on?

Browser is the primary platform, no download, no install, runs on any modern desktop browser. A Steam build will be available, with wishlisting opening alongside Closed Beta. An itch.io demo will follow during Open Beta. Mobile and console are not on the current roadmap.

What are the two factions in Bio-Op?

The UN Containment Corps (UNCC) is a disciplined multinational military with marines, titans, and orbital uplinks. Their doctrine is erasure. The Hive Syndicate is a cult-grown civilisation linked by a shared psychic channel called the Choir, fielding bio-vehicles and converted infantry. Their doctrine is transformation. Both factions are fully asymmetric, different economy, different units, different win conditions.

What is the Spore?

Spore is the meteor-borne resource that both factions fight over. It is alive in a way nobody fully understands, it grows back when harvested, and recent reports suggest it has started responding to the war happening on top of it. In Bio-Op, the Spore is your only resource, your battlefield hazard, and possibly a third faction in disguise.

Do I need a powerful PC to play Bio-Op?

No. Bio-Op runs in the browser and is built to play smoothly on a standard laptop from the last five years. There is no install, no patch download, and no GPU requirement beyond what a modern browser already uses.

Is there a single-player campaign?

Yes. Each faction has its own campaign, Operation Clean Slate for the UNCC and The Invitation for the Hive. Both will be playable end-to-end during Closed Beta and reflect the same story from opposite sides.

Will Bio-Op have multiplayer and ranked play?

Yes. Ranked queues open in Closed Beta. Co-op campaign and seasonal ranked play are planned for the 2027 launch. Mod tools are on the post-launch roadmap.
